Art is more than something you hang on your walls — it’s a story, a memory, a window into culture. Today, I’m taking you back to one of the most unforgettable trips of my life — my visit to Cuba.
It all started with a fundraiser for a friend studying medicine in Havana. That fundraiser turned into an open invitation to visit, and before I knew it, I was flying from the Bahamas into Cuba — a country rich with history, resilience, and creative spirit.

From wandering the streets of Old Havana to meeting local artists in their open-air studios, every moment was infused with beauty and meaning. I discovered a hidden gem — an artist whose work immediately spoke to me. His use of gold leaf, charcoal, and egg wash felt regal and ancient, capturing the essence of Black royalty. I bought over 50 pieces on that trip — and sold every single one, except for one special piece that still hangs in my personal collection today.
That trip was a reminder of why I do what I do at Vivant Art Gallery — art is storytelling. It’s a way to carry culture across borders, spark conversations, and preserve narratives that deserve to be seen and heard.
If you’ve ever wanted to experience the soul of a place through its art, I encourage you to take that trip — or, if you can’t, let the art come to you. Browse Vivant’s collection and find a piece that brings the spirit of travel and culture into your home.
