About the Artist Frito Bastien (b. 1954) is a Haitian master and Pew Fellowship recipient known for his "naïve" representational style. 1 After fleeing political persecution in Haiti in 1991, he settled in Philadelphia, where he became a cornerstone of the mural arts community. His work is celebrated for its ability to weave joyful nostalgia with complex narratives of resistance and cultural identity.
