About the Artist Frito Bastien (b. 1954) is a celebrated Haitian master and Pew Fellowship recipient. 1 Since arriving in Philadelphia in 1991, he has become a vital cultural steward, blending the Haitian "naïve" tradition with local narratives. His work, often painting from memory and imagination, is featured in major collections and celebrated for its emotional depth and vibrant storytelling. 2
