Afternoon Reprisal (2001) – Frito Bastien – Original Oil – 20x24 in
About the Artwork: "Afternoon Reprisal" is a soulful journey into the green hillsides of rural Haiti. At the heart of the painting, a traditional red-roofed home sits among rolling, cultivated land. Two women move along the ridge with quiet purpose—one balancing a basket, the other gazing toward the horizon. This piece is a "visual reprisal" of the artist's own memories, using a vivid palette and rhythmic patterns to celebrate the endurance and beauty of daily life. It is a meditation on time, longing, and the sacred nature of the everyday.
